The Story of Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club

Arcadia hole 11

Gather your wits and pull up your bootstraps because we have something VERY special for you!

Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club was founded in 1998 in Arcadia, Michigan. The course is built on the bluffs above the shore of Lake Michigan and sits on approximately 245 windswept acres of lakefront property. The course drops 225 feet from its highest point down to the bluff, 180 feet above sea level and has 3,100 feet of Lake Michigan shore frontage.  There might not be a more scenic spot in Michigan!

The golf course was specifically designed to resemble a seaside Irish links, with rolling terrain and windswept natural fescues throughout. Players will be reminded of their favorite holes at Lahinch and Ballybunion, while enjoying breathtaking "ocean-like" views of Lake Michigan from all points on the majestic layout. A Warren Henderson/Rick Smith 7,300 yard design, Arcadia Bluffs offers players a golfing experience unlike anything in the United States.

While the view may captivate you,  the course demands your full attention.  With crafted wide fairways, it may seem you are in for a easy round, but the danger lies in tough, undulated greens and dangerous bunkers.  Some of the more than 120 bunkers are sod-walled so steep that you may find yourself hitting out in the opposite direction from the green.  Long fescue grasses, swaying with the rhythm of the wind are mesmerizing, but you don't want your ball anywhere near them...they are more dangerous than a New Guinea Penal colony!   Carts are fitted with one of the best GPS yardage computers so you may concentrate your attention on the task at hand, not finding your distance to the green.

Come the first weekend of October, if the Lake Michigan winter winds begin to blow, prepare yourself for DEVASTATION and HUMILIATION!  Sometime just ask one of your own Yoot Shoot Brethren, Mr. Scott Bass, about his 8-putt in perfect conditions...I'd hate to see his score if the wind begins to blow!

Mountain Ridge Course at Crystal Mountain

Played in the 2003 Yoot Shoot, this championship course carves through heavily forested highlands with expansive waste bunkers and tree-lined fairways, culminating in a 200' climb and spectacular views. Despite its challenging layout, four tee boxes on each hole make Mountain Ridge very playable, with distances ranging from 4,956 to 7,007 yards.  But don't count on the 4956 yards in the Yoot Shoot!  As our closing round, the Mountain Ridge course will provide the final round challenge that brings the 2009 Champion into the clubhouse.  In our 2003 "rain shortened" tournament, "The Bean Counters" brought it home and claimed victory on this course... I'm sure a favorite of theirs.  Expectation is great this year for "The Bean Counters" to take the Yoot Shoot Cup again!
